Answers to Frequently Asked Questions about Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

Who is eligible to request items via ILL?

  • Current St. Catherine University students
  • Current St. Catherine University faculty and staff
  • Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet

What is my status?

  • Certificate: You are pursuing a certificate and come to campus for classes.
  • Associate: You are pursuing an associate degree and come to campus for classes.
  • Undergraduate: You are pursuing an undergraduate degree and come to campus for classes.
  • Graduate: You are pursuing a graduate degree and come to campus for classes.
  • Distance: You do not live within the 7-county metro and do not come to campus for classes. Loans will be mailed to you.
  • Faculty: You are a current faculty member at St. Catherine University.
  • Staff: You are a current staff member at St. Catherine University.

How long will it take to get my request?

  • Articles from our print or database collections: 1-3 business days
  • Articles from other CLIC libraries: 1-3 business days
  • Items from the U of MN: 1-7 business days
  • Items from other metro-area libraries: 3-7 business days
  • Items from greater MN, WI, ND, or SD: 1-2 weeks or more
  • Items from other states: 1-2 weeks or more

Will my request get here sooner if I put an earlier "not needed after" date?

No. Giving us less than two weeks for articles or a month for loans will result in your request being cancelled.

How will I know when my loan or article is here?

You will receive notice via email, or you can check the status of your request in your ILLiad account under "Pending Requests."

Articles: All articles will be delivered in electronic format to your ILLiad account and stored there for 30 days. Please download a copy and save elsewhere because after 30 days they will automatically be deleted.

Loans: Loans will be held at the circulation desk until the due date. Please pick them up as soon as you are notified to take advantage of the whole loan period.

How do I access my articles?

All articles will be available for download in your ILLiad account under "Articles Ready to View." We recommend using either Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome as Internet Explorer can experience some issues. To view PDFs, we recommend Adobe Acrobat Reader or Preview.

How do I request a renewal?

You can request a renewal one of two ways:

  • You can log into your ILLiad account and go to "Checked Out Items." Click on the Transaction Number of the loan you want renewed, then select "Renew Request."
  • If you miss the due date or cannot find "Renew Request," you can email a renewal request to your chosen campus: St. Paul or Minneapolis.

Do I have to return my ILL item to the St. Catherine University library?

Yes. Materials returned to other locations may get lost, resulting in overdue notices and fines from the lending library.
